No count today - I had to leave early to watch my granddaughter while my daughter went to an urgent care center. She has been having a lot of pain and they found a number of cysts on both ovaries. On the good side, my granddaughter was an angel and we had a lot of fun. She is almost 10 months old and quite a character.
On the Flip Side
Two books ordered from Barnes and Noble arrived:
one red paperclip by kyle macdonald
Once Upon a Time The End (asleep in 60 seconds) by Geoffrey Kloske and Barry Blitt

We have clickers! Instead of jotting dash n slash for counts, it's clicks. So the pencil and paper is no longer necessary...except for me because I would like to keep up this blog. This morning I did the hold list, which entails collecting the books, etc. that people have put on hold. It's like going shopping - there's even a cart that holds two of the library baskets. I love doing the hold list.
I also did the newspapers, noticing No Country for Old Men won awards last night. That's the only movie nominated that we saw. I wonder how many murders were in that movie. If there were a contest, it would win.

This week is bin week. We put all the picture books on the counter for one of the librarians to take to the day care centers. Once a month she picks up/delivers to 17 day care centers in the area. That's a lot of centers.
On the flip side
I finally got some headphones that are comfy for my MP3 player!

Books I want to buy: Once Upon a Time the End:Asleep in 60 Seconds and Little Bunny Foo-Foo. I ordered the 60-second Bedtime Stories with my Barnes and Noble gift card. When my daughter was in daycare, Little Bunny Foo-Foo was one of her favorite rhyme-songs. Especially the part about "Little Bunny Foo Foo/ I don't wanna see you/ Scoopin' up the field mice/ And boppin' 'em on the head."
On the Flip Side:
Other items I ordered with my gift card: Lost PC game and oneredpaperclip by Kyle MacDonald.
Thanks to my MIL (mother-in-law) for the Christmas gift card!

2-13-08

count = 9 Today is This City Reads and a journalist hung around interviewing patrons. I need new headphones for my mp3 player. I have earbuds and they are awful.
On the Flip Side
list: frozen fruit and drinks from yesterday, postage stamps to mail anniversary/Valentine's Day card to daughter & son-in-law. It's their 1st anniversary! And to mail mom's storage shed payment. ugh (forgot Gambit again)

2-12-08

count = 12 Once a week, I pull the previous week's newspapers and file them in hanging folders. The papers in the oldest folder then get put into the recycle bin. Today is Abraham Lincoln's birthday. A team of scholars are collecting Linclon's scratches according to an LA Times article:
Over the last seven years, more than 11,000 pieces of paper with Lincoln's elegant script -- and nearly 28,000 documents addressed to him -- have been found. After the pair scan the papers onto their laptops, they return the originals to their owners, and move on to find the next yellowing scrap.

Hubby wanted me to pick up Gambit, but I forgot.
Frozen fruit for smoothies and soft drinks with caffeine for my son. I didn't stop at the store.

2/6/08

Count = 20 List to self: Mail Paperback Swap books. Pay mom's storage shed. (I haven't been able to find the checkbook which turned up in such a logical spot last month when I needed it. I'm waiting for that to happen again. Meanwhile, the storage shed payment is late. I will be getting a call any day from them.)
On the Flip Side:
Belinda goes to Paris, Amy Young(I'd like to put something together with photos of my recent trip to Paris and characters e.g. Eloise and Madeline.)

Notes on notes

My shelving notes consist of the count (how many books I come across while shelving that need reshelved). This number gets recorded in a log at the end of my shift. I also list books I shelve that I would like to read (TBR) on the back of my paper. Plus any lists, notes or nonsense I write down on my journey 'round the library putting away my beloved books. Sometimes I don't know why or even what I wrote down, but if I do and it's interesting, I plan to expound on those bits of profound information.
